Baharia Oasis and sulfur eyes

Baharia Oasis is located 365 kilometers south-west of Giza, making it a place of archaeological importance and a centre for medical tourism and environmental treatment.

In the coming two years, Baharia Oasis will become part of the Greater Cairo zone after the completion of its airport. This will make the trip from Cairo take only an hour, compared to the current five-hour journey by car.

Archaeological Tourism

Among the most fascinating archaeological sites in the area are the tombs of the 26th Dynasty, the cemetery of Holy Birds, the remains of the Roman arch of victory, and a temple dating back to the time of Alexander the Great.

One of the most significant discoveries was the tomb of the gold mummified crops, which sheds light on an important period of Egyptian history at the beginning of the Roman era. Dr Zahy Hawas, a renowned Egyptologist, discovered this tomb, which contains about ten thousand gold mummifications.

Another significant find was the tomb of the Oasis Ruler from the 26th Dynasty. This discovery included about one hundred gold coins and a number of gold statues of different gods.

Natural Springs

Baharia Oasis is home to about four hundred warm and cold springs. Scientific research conducted by Egyptian and foreign universities has proven that the water in these springs is beneficial for treating rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, and skin diseases.

Due to its dry, moderate climate and the sun shining all year round, Baharia Oasis has become one of the best treatment resorts in the world.

Tourists from central, western, and northern Europe especially come to the oasis to enjoy treatment in the springs of well Halfa. The warm water in these springs reaches temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius, with some cases reaching up to 40 degrees.

Among the archaeological sites are the Roman wells and the famous Beshmo well, which has two sources of water. One source is hot, while the other is cold, both of which run into the same stony, deep stream.

Treatment Facilities

The El-Ein El-Sokhna Hotel has been built at the highest level in Baharia Oasis. It features 50 beds and 24 rooms, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a sauna.

Soon, an international specialized center in environmental therapy will be built to take advantage of the treating values of the wells and natural springs in the area.
